I received my first ever Jury Summons in over 10 years of being a registered voter. In some ways I think it is great to be able to serve America in this small gesture. I mean there are people out there who risk their whole life for the freedom of our country. Certainly I can give up one day or so in service to this wonderful nation, right? But in others ways I find it irritating that Barry has to take an unpaid leave from work to be able to stay home with the kids after all stay at home moms can't just call in a substitute.
I just find it humorous the day it showed up in the mailbox. I had my annual OB/GYN appointment and usually I just trek all three kids with me there, no big deal. However, Barry Bretton in getting to the age where that is weird and I know he would ask a whole bunch of questions that I just don't want to address at his age so I asked BR if he would take a lunch to come home and watch the kids for me. I have NEVER done this! He graciously said yes and I went on my merry way to the doctor. Now, I know I have written before that Brahm loves his mom. Well that is an understatement. I truly think this little guy thinks he is a part of me and is incomplete without me. I mean he is literally attached at the hip and makes it known that he is not happy without me. I can't put him down without him thinking his little world is ending. So I come home to one unhappy little man and to find a jury summons in the mailbox. Barry says he didn't cry the WHOLE time, he did fall asleep for a little while:) Anyhow, that will be one interesting day. I sure hope Brahm (and Barry Ryan for that matter) survive and heaven forbid what would happen if I actually got selected.

I would love to watch your kids for you. Ashlyn and Avery would be sooo excited to have their friends come over and play. I know Brahm would be sad at first, but then BR wouldn't have to take the day off! Let me know!
Tara,
This happened to me a few months ago. As you know, I don't have family here and I don't have ANYONE to watch my child. I called and was on hold for FOREVER, but the lady I spoke with was very nice and helped me. She made me write a little note saying that I am a stay at home mom and I watch a 2 year old. It is an affidavit or something like that. You sign it and fax it in. It has to be done before your jury summons date. You will then get something in the mail saying that you were released from duty. It is not unpatriotic. You are a busy mom and it is not right that Barry Ryan has to take un-paid leave...after all if it were his notice, it would probably be paid leave. I just thought I would pass that along. It was my first notice...ever, and I have been a registered voter for as long as I could vote. If I could have done it, I would...I could see me liking that sort of thing:) Good luck!!
Annie
PS, have not talked to you in awhile, hope all is well!!!
PS, post a follow up, I'm curious how it will all work out for you. If you do do it, hopefully it wont be one that lasts for days or weeks!!!!
That is so funny! I have never received a jury summons her in Vegas, but when we lived in Missouri I got one! I was not able to go because I was supposed to have Arielle the same day!
Good luck! I can watch your kids also! Just give me a call!
What and adventure! I've served jury duty twice and both times I was in and out in a few hours. My advice--enjoy a few hours away; bring a good book because you might have to wait (if they allow it), and count it as a new experience!
That makes me laugh that Barry said that Brahm didn't cry the WHOLE time! I have never been summoned before, but I am thinking if it happened to me, I might do what Annie suggested. Not that I wouldn't want to serve, but that it would be hard to have someone tend Lizzie since I am still nursing.
