Eight is Great!

You will have to pardon my absence from the blogging world. This time of year I have to put things on cruise control and hold on because there is so much going on. I will catch up this week (hopefully).
Barry Bretton turned eight this past month! What a huge birthday. He was so excited about getting baptised, he wanted everything to be about that. He wanted a baptism cake. To quote him exactly he wanted a carrot cake that was all white with a picture of his dad and him on the front getting baptised. Besides that being a little sacrilegious, I think he over estimates my artistic abilities. But I did make a carrot cake and tried my hand at fondant for the first time so the cake would be all white and added blue to represent water. It turned out okay and definitely something I will try again another time. An eight year old wouldn't be complete without a pocket knife! (don't mind Vallie picking her nose:)
We also gave him all his cub scout gear.
Lego from Grandma and Grandpa Bulow are always a hit.
He got eight dollar from Grandma and Grandpa Christensen for turning eight. He was over the moon about it. It was the first time he received money for a present. So what exactly did he want to do with his money?........Open a savings account at the bank (he definitely got his Dad's genes on that one). He is a little penny pincher.
Other things about Barry Bretton:
He loves GREEN.
He always has more than one book going at a time.
He knows random facts about everything and anything and isn't afraid to enlighten you about them.
He wants to turn my kitchen into his chemistry lab.
He has two speeds with anything he doesn't want to do- slow and stopped.
He hates wearing his glasses and insists he can see just fine without them until I try to have him read something on the wall.
He can build with legos for hours.
His favorite TV show is Arthur.
He is a super fast runner.
He is loving basketball and gymnastics.
He couldn't become a cub scout fast enough and is loving every minute of it now (actually he has been a cub scout for a little less than a month and has already earned his bobcat, his first bead and two beltloops). Way to go Barry Bretton!
We are so glad he is with us in our family. He is the cutest big brother and adds so much to our home. We love you.

I can't believe he is 8! Our kids are growing up too fast. He will love cub scouts. I was a wolf leader for a couple of years and they have so much fun.
