Salad Sticks and other inventions

Move over Thomas Edison, Barry Bretton is on a mission. Barry Bretton's driving force since we have been out of school is to invent something useful. Something that everyone in the world can use. He thinks the world of Thomas Edison and all his useful inventions but honestly thinks he can invent something more significant than the light bulb or his other 1000 inventions:) So whenever I have something to do, he tries to find a better way (using some contraption) to make life easier. Usually it drives me crazy cause it makes my life longer but I don't want to crush his little swelling ambition.
Yesterday he was scouring the house and came up with a few different items he thought were usable: a vacuum tube, string, cork, some wood, and plastic odds and ends. He transforms them into something and begins to describe its function to me. "You place it out side in the ground and it tells you what way the wind is blowing." Then he looks at me waiting to hear if his "new" invention is something every household needs only to be crushed when I say, "It is a weather vain". He looks back at his invention now with different light and knows he has totally invented something he already knew existed but didn't realize it.
But his desire to invent goes way beyond contraptions and dips into the realm of food. I always have a hard time trying to come up with dinner ideas and prod the kids to get something out of them (Vallie always answers Mac and Cheese so I don't know why I even bother asking). But Barry Bretton is always trying to invent a new recipe. His latest recipe he loving named "Salad Sticks". It has the same idea as shish kabobs but with only salad ingredients such as tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, whatever you can dream up, chuncked up, placed on a skewer and then drizzled with salad dressing and served as an appetizer. Quit tasty and a fun way to eat salad.
Anyhow, maybe by the end of the summer he will have invented a useful contraption. In not, maybe he has a promising future in the culinary world.

THAT is the best idea ever. You can tell Barry we are having that for dinner! Sounds delish!

Why didn't I think of that? Jackson is going to love this idea, he loves salad and salad on swords would be pretty much the best thing ever! Great invention Barry!
