If you are anything like me, you get so excited for the last day of school and this year was no exception. I could even say I was even more excited than usually. I couldn't wait for a break and to have some fun with the kids this summer (this teaching your child stuff is no joke). We were sad to say goodbye to Mrs. Nelson for the year (Hopefully, we will get her for a teacher again. It was great.) Odyssey had a close out assembly for the year at Artemus Ham Hall where families could come and the children got awards for their accomplishments for the year. My parents were able to come down and join us.
Barry Bretton recieved a few awards this year. He was on the Straight A Honor Roll, he got the principals writing award (for an essay he wrote) and also received The Shinning Star Award (given to k-2nd grade students who have straight A's and E's for the whole year). So we are super proud of him.
I have thought back through the year and remember many of the things we have done and how Barry Bretton has grown. He has came a far way but the one thing I have to write about is reading. Some kids like sports; Some kids like video games; Barry Bretton is a genuine book worm. You hardly see him with out a book in his hand. So I started to make a list of all the books I remember him reading since September and it is crazy! So here is the list (the list only contains the chapter books I can remember and doesn't included all his 1st grade required reading or picture style books):
23 Nate the Great
26 A to Z Mysteries
34 Magic Tree Houses
10 Magic Tree House Research Guides
5 Horrible Harry
6 Ready Freddy
12 Amelia Bedelia
5 Arthur
6 Dinosaur Cove
5 Stanley
Nessie and the Living Stone
Pippa the Poppy Fairy
The One in the Middle is the Green Kangaroo
Homer Price
Frindle
Wayside School is Falling Down
Ramona and Her Father
Dear Mr. Henshaw
A Flying Birthday Cake
The Mount Rushmore Calamity
That is almost 150 books my freinds! and some of them he read more than once. I think that is more books than I have read in my life (I guess that is why I think it is so amazing). So if you have any summer reading suggestions, pass them our way.

That is amazing! A boy after my own heart! I used to sit down and start a chapter book and not get up until I was finished.
I LOVED the Boxcar Children!I don't know if he would like them, but I loved them! Congrats Barry Bretton!!
I am an adult- but I still love reading children's books. A favorite series of mine has been The Mysterious Benedict Society. It has a bunch of little puzzles in it to figure out- it would be right up Barry's alley!
Wow! I can't believe what a reader he is! That is awesome! Congrats on a great year! I am glad it all worked out for you to do it at home.
