All in a days work (literally)

My mother told me the cannery in St George had blackberries so I asked her to get me a five gallon bucket for canning. I LOVE blackberry jam. So any way, I canned and canned and canned (11 times). It literally took me all day, mind you I do have 3 little helping tornadoes. I usually only can things when the kids are in bed or when Barry is around to help with everything but I knew it would take most of the day so I enlisted the kids to help me. Barry Bretton loved it and asked me if we could do it again tomorrow. How cute is this, he even asked me if I could tell him the recipe so he could write it down. He wanted to make jam when he got older too. So at least it was a fun activity. Five gallons made 101 Cups of jam. That is a whole lot a jam. Now I can just eat it by the spoonful (only kidding). We are giving it around as Christams gifts this year, Yummy!

We have a canning tradition, while I am canning I make a loaf of whole wheat bread and we eat bread and whatever we are canning for dinner. It was bread, jam and peaches this time. Brahm absolutely loved it. I am not the only one that LOVES blackberry jam. He bathed himself in it. Check out the ear shot. Mmmmmmm! so good.

I wish I could have been there so you could teach me how to can! That jam looks so good. Brahm is such a cute little guy.

That looks wonderful! The next time you have access to fruit like that I would love to get some if that's possible.

Wow! That is a lot of jam. I was complaining about my chicken canning but you did a lot of jam. It looks so yummy. I actually didn't know that you could buy the berries from the cannery...All I can say is that I wish I were a neighbor.
