Vallie's "Real" birthday party

So Vallie told me this year she wanted to have a "real" birthday party. You see when I do parties I might go a little over board (okay, so it might be a little bit of a sickness but it is all in good fun). Being 5, she is finally old enough to realize for herself the fun we have had at Barry Bretton's past parties and her birthday is sandwiched in between Christmas and New Years. I have just always laid a little low on her birthday and she is feeling a little bit ripped off. We couldn't have that so I promised I would plan an "event" for her. She wanted it to be princess themed. Not to bag on princess parties but that is WAY to common. We needed something with a little bit of sparkle so we decided on an ice princess party. Then I remembered this old song for the 40's or 50's called "Suzy Snowflake". That was it!

We made enough paper snowflakes and chains to cover all the downstairs ceiling. It was enough to give even Buddy from the movie ELF a hand cramp.

So here is my "Suzy Snowflake dressed in her all white gown" I made for her.

My mom was a super trooper and help with everything. She can't wait for Vallie's wedding (I think she was a little cheeky about that;) The menu consisted of homemade chili with garlic cheese snowflake tortillas, popcorn "snow"balls, meringue snowflakes, cheese "snow"ball and crackers, snowball punch, and hot chocolate.
We played tons of snow games like freezing snowflake (very similar to hot potato), freeze dancing, catch a snowball in your mouth, snowball hide and seek, and we built ice castles and cut out paper snowflakes. The most amazing thing was that it actually SNOWED in ST. GEORGE on her birthday. It was amazing!
This picture of these 2 year old cousins (Brahm and Taelor) could very well be one of my all time favorite pictures. They were oh so cute trying to keep up with all their older cousins.
Here is my second fondant cake.
Vallie blowing out her candles!
Even ice princesses need to warm up by the fire sometimes. Happy 5th Birthday Vallie Mae!

That outfit you made Vallie is absolutely beautiful! The fondant cake turned out great! I wish we could have been there. Vallie is such a doll. That picture of her by the fireplace is a treasure!

Wow, what a beautiful party! You have some amazing sewing skills. How do you find time to fit that in with all you do? I'm still sad we weren't able to make the party. We really would like a chance to get together with you if you have time next time you're in st george. :)
