Goal accomplished (somewhat)

I made the goal last year to be able to a play a hymn out of the real hymn book by the time the year ended. I have practised (pretty faithfully) when I can throughout the year and I am reporting that I can play quit a few hymns now. Last night, there was a baptism in the ward and I actually played the prelude because the pianist was running really late (all the time I was praying she made it for the opening song:). I did okay. Nothing to write home about but defiantly worth a blog post.

But now I am in a pickle. I am afraid I am no longer a closet pianist anymore since a member of the bishopric and RS presidency were there and both went out of their way to say, "I didn't know you played the piano." I quickly tried to say that I am in the learning stages and still need lots of work:) They tried to convince me it was beautiful so I think I smell trouble since our ward is really lacking pianist.

Advice from the person who is usually the only pianist in the building on Sunday: never turn down a request to play, even if you can only play one hand; the Lord will bless you and magnify your talents!

Last night when I left a comment it was very late and I wasn't thinking clearly--that's why I deleted my comment! Tara, I am very impressed with you and your accomplishment in learing how to play the piano so well! The only reason I am playing in church this Sunday is because our ward is totally desperate for musical numbers! I decided that if Dave and the kids would sing while I play then if by chance I make any mistakes their singing will hopefully cover it up!
